Left to right: Lee Henshall, Ben Melville
On Thursday 5th March 2015, 3D compositor Lee Henshall visited my university to give a talk on his career of working with 3D animation print design for cars.
He produces photorealistic models of vehicles in Maya and 3D Studio Max.
He did the same traditional animation course as Ben Melville (animation tutor at London Met) at the University of Bedfordshire.
Lee has a LinkedIn profile.
Lee became interested in 3D design in 2000 when he started playing computer games.
When Lee attended university, he applied for all the film studios. He ended up going for the 3D vehicle design path rather than the filmmaking path.
Companies he worked for include Saddington Baynes, CGI Studio, Opticgroup, Nissan and Taylor James.
Lee showed us his Opticgroup showreel that consists of 3D objects such as vehicles, tyres, a watch and an alcoholic drink bottle.
He attended Bedford College, BCIT and the University of Bedfordshire. He lived in Vancouver, Canada for two years and studied at the BCIT during this time. He met Ben and Mark at UoB.
He also showed us his animated film he made at university (included in his showreel).
He showed us another showreel of 3D models that can be found on YouTube.
He gave tips on how to make the most out of university followed by advice on what to do afterwards.
