MD6003 Week 19 - Portfolios, Showreels, CVs and Cover Letters (Updated from 22nd February 2015)

A portfolio consists of several pieces of work that a job appilcant or interviewee would show to an employer or an interviewer to increase their chances of securing a job. For example a person applying for a job in animation would show the employer skketches and animation footage. The applicant must also explain how they produced a certain piece of work so that they have a higher chance of securing the job.

A showreel consists of segments of a creator's work, particularly film and animation. The showreel must include the creator's best bits of work so that the employer can determine their best techniques for the job role .Below is my showreel work from my entire university course (see also the Home Page):

A CV, short for curriculum vitae, is a document that lists a person's work experience and education. A person should submit a CV when applying for a job. When listing employment and education, the applicant must list the most recent position or educational placement first. While an applicant's date of birth and nationality were essential on a CV in the past neither of them are necessary nowadays. This is to dicourage discrimination of age and race.

A cover letter is written to accompany a CV and/pr a job application form (Prospects.ac.uk). It should include the heading of a job an applicant is applying for and it should address the employer by name rather than say "To whom it may concern" otherwise the application could be rejected. It should also include the applicant's name and contact details as well as key aspects of why the applicant would be a good candidate.
