Asperger Awareness Rough.Still005 for letter.jpg

My letterhead image

As part of my exhibition and representation module, I was asked to write a cover letter for when I apply for a position I am interested in. I wrote the following:

Entry-Level Storyboard Assistant Position or Work Experience

Dear Aaron,

I am writing in interest of applying for the entry-level storyboard assistant position and work experience.

I am currently in my third year at the London Metropolitan University and studying for a BA (Hons) degree in animation. I have also applied for an MA in animation at the Royal College of Art.

My specialist skills include 2D animation in Adobe Flash, Toon Boom and Adobe After Effects, image manipulation and rotoscoping in Adobe Photoshop, strong storyboarding skills and strong organisation skills.

Once I have gained experience as a storyboard assistant, I hope to apply for another position such as a 2D computer animator. Your company appeals to me because when you visited my university to discuss pitching animation ideas, you mentioned that your company specialises in 2D animation and it is one of

my strongest techniques.

I have recently finished working on my final year major studio project, which is a public information film about Asperger syndrome awareness that uses a combination of 2D computer animation in the style of collage and rotoscoping as well as good storyboarding skills. I produced it with valuable constructive feedback from The National Autistic Society.

I think my experience with producing my film is relevant to your company because it uses similar techniques that you and your team would use for your projects and I could develop my skills further by studying for a master’s degree before applying for a position in your company.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

April Slocombe
