Kline Sonne (Little Sun) (1969)
Hannah Höch was an influential collage artist who was a member of the Berlin Dada Movement in the 1920s. She began using the collage medium in 1918 by “splicing together images taken from fashion magazines and illustrated journals.” (Whitechapel Gallery, 2015). Unlike her hand-paintings, Höch never made her collages in one sitting because she liked to update them sporadically. An exhibition of her work, collage and otherwise, was on display at the Whitechapel Gallery from 15th January 2014 to 23rd March 2014. I visited the exhibition to get inspiration for future projects where I intended to use cut-out animation.

Der Kleine P (1928)
Höch’s collage works inspire me for the cut-out animation segments of my major studio project because my cut-out animation mirrors the style used for her collage works albeit more modern since the majority of my cut-outs are from contemporary magazines, newspapers and brochures.
