As part of the projection mapping experiment on Surbiton train station in November, I was asked to experiment with different materials to create animations with a Christmas theme. During my first tutorial session with Mark Collington of my third year, I thought of experimenting with baobab powder for the projection mapping project and the Aduna brief. For the projection mapping project, I put blobs of baobab powder onto a light box, moved them down slightly by scraping them with a piece of cardboard, took a photograph, moved the blobs down furher, took another photgraph, added another row of blobs and so on. After the experiment I edited the photographs, imported them into ToonBoom along with some Christmas music and exported the project as a QuickTime movie. I uploaded the file onto YouTube to enable embedding into this post. I am fairly pleased with the result although the lighting and size of the blobs are inconsistent due to having done the experiment over two days and I feel I should have placed cling film on the light box as well.
