FA7036 - London Animation Club 3/11/15

Quite a few people at that club study animation courses at university.

There will be a campaign for Jump Cut Jeff. The teaser trailer was shown.

At the club people chose to screen their won works of film and animation. I was supposed to have shown my graduate film Looming Marvellous: Living with Asperger Syndrome but did not get around to showing it because I did not burn the film onto DVD, which was the only way films could be screened at the Green Man Pub. The first film shown has a Halloween theme.

The next film Joc Barrera uses Flash animation and was produced by a student who studied at the University of East London.

Martin Pickles (below) showed his film Ode to Joy, which was shown at a previous animation club. It is a documentary about Joy Bachelor. He then showed his graduation film from the RCA - Like Me, Only Better (2007).

The guest for that evening's club was Nag Vladermersky (below). He studied film in Australia where he was based. He lived in Melbourne.

Nag asked the question, "Has CGI taken over?" The argument is no since other types of animation still exist such as stop-motion and hand-drawn. An example to support this argument is that while remakes of classic children's shows such as Fireman Sam, Thomas the Tank Engine and Noddy were initially made in CGI, new versions of Clangers, Danger Mouse and Teletubbies use minimal CGI whilst mostly staying true to their original styles.

The first film Nag showed was Tik Tok, an Estonian production. It is about clocks and uses pixilation.

Jiro Visits the Dentist was the next film that was shown. It has an experimental sketchy look.

Splintertime was the third film Nag screened. It is a very dark film.
